Child-Led and Play Based Learning
We believe in the importance of open-ended play.
We provide children with elements, tools, and space to explore and make messes. We embrace the child’s natural desire to make change in the elements before them whether it is cutting string into tiny pieces, crushing dried flowers, or mixing paint colors. We also embrace the mess. While we encourage children to assist in cleaning up the mess, we also celebrate their evidence of hard work and creativity.
“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.”
Creativity is at the heart of everything we do. We believe in using high-quality and thoughtfully designed toys that inspire kids to build, explore, sort, and pretend. We’ve been curating an incredible collection of Grimm’s, Melissa and Doug, and Hape wooden toys, Montessori materials, and educational blocks and puzzles. Our most recent purchase is an incredible Speilgaben set of 3-d shapes and loose parts for infinite pattern play and more.
Another way we play is to practice practical skills like preparing snacks, pouring tea, and washing dishes during our daily tea time with preschoolers.
“Our care of the child should be governed, not by the desire to make him learn things, but by the endeavor always to keep burning within him that light which is called intelligence.”
