Child-led & Play-based
EDUCATION THAT INSPIRES LIFE-LONG LEARNING
“Proof of learning should be on the child, not on a worksheet.”
We provide children with elements, tools, and space to explore and make messes. We embrace the child’s natural desire to make change in the elements before them whether it is cutting string into tiny pieces, crushing dried flowers, or mixing paint colors. We also embrace the mess. While we encourage children to assist in cleaning up the mess, we also celebrate their evidence of hard work and creativity.
Active Play in the Gym
AT ACROS GYMNASTICS
Movement is such an integral part of our physical wellness, and research even shows that it affects our brain function and the way we learn. As our classroom is located with the Acros building, we have the incredible opportunity to use their gym daily to run, jump, practice yoga, and just get our hearts pumping while getting our wiggles out.
Wrapped in whimsical trimmings (headbands, face-paint, and the beat of the tribal drum), the Challenge Island program features an unmistakable spirit and flair. A sense of anticipation fills the air as kids enter new worlds of adventure through imaginative journeys to an array of thematic islands.
Each island is made up of numerous whimsical “destinations” where children work in collaborative tribes on action-packed challenges using only their creativity and the materials in their treasure chests. From chemistry to art, engineering to music, and geometry to mythology, the “island” format allows for enormous flexibility in offering cross curricular material while developing communication, collaboration, and flexible thinking skills.
FOR ALL AGES
Let’s be kind and do good stuff. We believe it’s never too early to get children involved in community service. Whether its making art to cheer up residents at senior living facilities, sorting cans of food to be donated or chopping vegetables to make soup for a homeless shelter, realizing that they have the power to help those in need is one of the most valuable lessons they can learn. Part of our mission as a community academy is to involve kids of all ages in brainstorming ways to help our community, developing plans for projects, and volunteering to see their ideas come to light and make a difference.
